ASSOCIATE PAINTING CONSERVATOR | A full time position in Beverly, MA
Our team is comprised of individuals who are passionate about preserving cultural heritage, intellectually curious, and dedicated to performing the highest quality work. The ideal candidate should work well as part of a team and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate on decision making regarding treatment recommendations. Our painting projects consist mainly of easel paintings from the 17th through 21stcenturies. In addition to the Painting Conservation duties, this position includes project management tasks and oversight of Conservation Assistants and Technicians as necessary. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examination of the material composition and condition of paintings in order to determine the most appropriate treatment protocol
- Preparation of detailed written documentation, including project cost estimates
- Preparation of appropriate photographic documentation
- Perform painting conservation treatments, working collaboratively as necessary
- Manage projects to ensure their accurate and timely completion
- Supervise Conservation Assistants and Technicians as necessary
- Contribute to the organization and upkeep of the studio
- Ensure that proper levels of painting conservation supplies are maintained
- Be able to communicate effectively with customers regarding painting treatments
- Remain up to date with conservation research as it relates to the treatment of paintings
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- A Master’s degree in Conservation or commensurate apprenticeship training and experience
- Have a minimum of 2 years of experience treating paintings beyond Master’s degree
- Must have knowledge and understanding of Western Art History from antiquity through the 20th Century and possess the ability to readily identify the style and historical context of paintings
- Must have excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be knowledgeable regarding two dimensional studio art techniques
- Must have excellent hand skills
- Familiarity and adherence to the AIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice
- Must be proactive, with the ability to take initiative and anticipate what actions are needed
- Have good interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team as well as independently
- Be able to lift 50lbs
- Have a valid driver’s license
COMPENSATION
Starting salary of $60,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience; eligible for performance bonuses. Benefits include: Health Insurance; Retirement Plan Contribution; Paid Holidays; Generous Paid Time Off (PTO). Opportunities for pay increases and advancement within the company.
